My grandma taught me how to quilt and I helped her hand piece when we sat together on her sofa talking. I didn't make anything of my own at the time. I made my first quilt in 1978, a little flannel patchwork for my second baby. A sampler class in 1997 got me started again and I've been quilting ever since. My interests have expanded to journal quilts which I plan to do more of. Thanks for visiting!

Karen, your piece very clearly portrays your thoughts and feelings and I like the scripture a lot. You did a great job!
It took me a moment to match the piece with the blog. I often find doing creative work really cathartic. I struggled with all kinds of issues in my late forties. Life's better now. I've learned to relax, breathe, react less and observe more.
Karen your journal for Jan is great - can't wait to see it in person - maybe Sunday? or do I have to wait until Grateful Threads on Friday... P
I can sure echo that scripture verse most days. And the compass idea really fits it well. I like the way you put things in all directions so that one would have to turn it to really read it. Sometimes too much text takes away from the image but because of the way you handled it yours enhances it.
I'll have to come back to webshots to see your piece later as it didn't show for me full size. Looking forward to it
Denim Doll and Whimsy: I love your bee's name... Grateful Threads... my dh asks if ya'll are Thread Heads? (-8

Thank you all for your kind comments! This is my first online challenge and I can tell I'm going to love it. Haven't had a chance to go through the journals yet (can you believe that?), but can't wait! (Some of our GratefulThreads have become self-proclaimed DeadThreads!) Have the most wonderful weekends! k
Oh, I love it, and can I identify! You were so successful in expressing your feelings. Love that scripture. "She jumped on her horse and galloped off in all directions." I knew you were going to be interesting with that wonderful name "Whimsyquilter." I'd love to see that piece in person, there is so much detail.
Sometimes getting our feelings down on paper (in this case, on fabric!) really helps to sort them out. I hope 2006 can be a more focused year for you. I love the quilt!
Your page is so interesting. Well done!
Wow, can I relate to that "scattered" feeling! I think that's a universal feeling for women these days--so much multi-tasking, it's no wonder we have trouble focusing on our own projects! Your piece conveys that feeling beautifully. I hope the exercise of making it helped you EXORCISE the demons of multi-tasking!
